Essex Chambers of Commerce is delighted to have been chosen by the Department for Education as lead for the Essex Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP). These plans are being rolled out across England to provide an employer voice and perspective on the skills needs locally.
Over the past few months, we’ve been working with local employers and partners to develop a plan that effectively captures our region’s skills needs and the actions required for local colleges and skills providers to meet that need. To build a complete picture, we’ve drawn on a wide range of data sets and utilised existing reports and information. Through our extensive outreach and research, we identified a clear a set of priorities:
The report sets out a detailed roadmap for change, with action-focused solutions to ensure each priority is delivered on. The Secretary of State for Education has officially approved the Essex, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock LSIP and we have begun implementing the initiatives proposed in the report to make the skills landscape easier to navigate for all. Work is already underway through the college-led £2.8 million ‘Strategic Development Fund’, ensuring capital investments are aligned to industry need in key sectors. The Essex LSIP will enable further alignment and investments.
It is with immense pleasure that we share the full report and supporting documents.
