Essex Chambers of Commerce were delighted to facilitate a visit from Shadow Energy Secretary, Ed Miliband, to the Port of Tilbury on Thursday 11th April. Our CEO, Denise Rossiter, welcomed the Shadow Secretary to the Port, owned by Forth Ports, and accompanied him on a tour.
“Thurrock jobs and economy will thrive under Labour’s Great British Energy scheme” said Ed Miliband as he pledged that Labour’s mission to ‘Switch on Great British Energy’ would help bring jobs to Thurrock.
They joined Labour’s candidate for Thurrock Jen Craft to witness firsthand the Port of Tilbury’s transition to 100% green energy and cleaner fuels, while exploring its ambitious plans for three major new offshore wind manufacturing and marshalling sites (Tilbury, alongside Edinburgh/Leith and Burntisland) and a green hydrogen plant.
Part of Labour’s mission to Switch on Great British Energy is to invest in clean Hydrogen and Wind power, which Tilbury Docks could accommodate under their new plans.
“There is great potential in Thurrock to create jobs through the Port of Tilbury’s exciting plans. Labour has a plan to partner with businesses to invest in infrastructure that will bring jobs to places like Thurrock, get down our energy bills and ensure we aren’t dependent on dictators like Putin for energy.”
“We have huge potential here in Thurrock but the Conservatives have failed to invest in local jobs.
“If I am elected MP, I will be fighting to secure government funding and link up local businesses with schools and colleges to ensure that our people have the skills to secure these high skilled, well paid jobs in the energy sector.
“I was delighted to share Tilbury’s plans with Ed and get his support for the work they are doing to bring investment and jobs to Thurrock. The message is clear, it is only by electing a Labour government that Tilbury can receive the support it needs to bring these high paid jobs to Thurrock.”
“Our ports are at the centre of a growing green economy. Tilbury, alongside Leith, are being overhauled to create dedicated hubs for offshore wind and the development of local supply chains rich in high-quality, long-term employment.
“Charged by multi-million-pound investments in alternative fuels, the electrification of assets and major port developments, our operations are set to be carbon neutral by 2032.”
