Our 2025 events programme started with a pitch perfect evening at Rega Research Ltd’s Southend based factory. It was a delight to welcome our attendees for a behind-the-scenes look at the world-renowned manufacturer of exquisite quality high-fidelity audio systems.

The company, which has been operating for over 50 years, is a remarkable example of just what can be achieved through cultivating a passionate and dedicated workforce. Indeed, that passion was palpable as the networking took place in the canteen, a central point in the open plan space of the factory. As conversations and connections were made between attendees, we were surrounded by workers busy assembling the various high calibre products that Rega produces every day.

The passion and pride in their work was also apparent on the tours. As groups ventured into each department they were warmly greeted and wowed by the skill and expertise on show. The meticulous and precise work at every stage of the product journey, from design to packing was staggering.

Our CEO, Denise Rossiter, welcomed attendees. Citing the difficulties that businesses are facing, she emphasised that the Chambers are on hand for support in whatever way we can. Denise also announced that bookings for this year’s Festival of Business will be live very soon!

After Denise’s welcome, we heard from Rega’s Company Co-Ordinator, Phil Freeman. Phil, who has been with organisation for 46 years, regaled attendees with the company’s history. Rega’s founder, Roy Gandy, started the company in 1973 and ever since they have been designing and manufacturing the very best in audio systems, from record players to speakers.

Phil explained that Rega is an organisation run by engineers with a passion for music. As such, when creating a product, the audio is paramount to any other aspect of the design. This is amplified in the company’s specific virtues; Performance, Design and Last a lifetime – with each product coming with a lifetime warranty.

The organisation’s ethos of quality and care carries across to every aspect, including company culture. This is evident in Roy’s decision last year to gift 100% of his shares (full ownership) of the company, allowing Rega to become an Employee Ownership Trust.

Attendees also heard from Jacqui Wilson, Export Sales & OEM Co-Ordinator, who described the global reach of Rega. The company currently has 49 global distributors across 60 countries, with ongoing expansion. Don’t forget these are products made in Southend and distributed around the world. In the past 10 years the company has grown 60%, however, rather than selling through third-party platforms, Rega chooses to support high street retailers.

Essex Chambers are proud to work closely with Rega for their International Trade needs. Jacqui thanked our dedicated team for their continued support with our training programmes and export documentation service.

After the talks and tours our attendees enjoyed a delicious buffet, all made inhouse by the catering team. The food was not only beautifully presented but also thoughtfully curated, adding to the overall warmth and hospitality of the evening. It was a perfect complement to such an enjoyable and inspiring event.

Speaking after the event, Denise commented:

“On behalf of Essex Chambers, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Rega team for hosting such a fantastic and insightful networking event. It was a privilege to be welcomed into your world and to witness firsthand the dedication and craftsmanship that go into producing your first-class Hi-Fi systems.

“We were grateful for the opportunity to learn more about your exceptional company, its values, and the driving force behind your success.”

Phil commented after the event saying:

“As I believe we stated at the event, Essex Chambers is part of Rega, a key supplier. The team have directly contributed to Regas growth and strength as a company. Your continued help to Rega can be seen in many ways, the most special thing about the event was the interest everyone took in us as a whole group.

“Our assembly teams in particular are buzzing because of the event and how it has enabled them to continue to grow their pride in their company and their own individual part in it.”
