The political map of the United Kingdom and of Essex has changed dramatically following the general election. Congratulations to all the successful candidates and commiserations to those who have been unsuccessful.
As an apolitical organisation Essex Chambers of Commerce will continue to work with all parties for the betterment of Essex business and for sustainable growth in the Essex and wider East of England economy.
To this end we ask the government to address the issues facing business as set out by the British Chambers of Commerce, with whom we are affiliated.
These include the need for a coherent industrial strategy for the long-term, which places a strong emphasis on harnessing green innovation, closing the skills gap, growing exports, boosting productivity and harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence.
Businesses will also want to see early movement on pledges around business rates reform and improving our trade relationship with the EU.
“We recognise that none of the challenges facing the UK economy can be overcome in the short term, but a start can be made. With our partner chambers in the East of England region and across the country we are ready to do what we can to help. If business flourishes, then so do our communities; if the economy grows, then the wealth needed to support our public services is created.”
