With the increasing number of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) allowing self-certification, Genesis provides a reliable way for businesses to validate their origin statements, ensuring compliance and reducing trade risks.
Through Genesis, exporters can apply to obtain third-party validation of their invoice declarations. This independent certification enhances the credibility of their preferential origin claims, facilitating smoother trade operations.
Rules of Origin (ROOs) determine whether goods qualify for duty-free or reduced tariffs under FTAs, even if they contain non-originating components. A certified invoice declaration strengthens trust between exporters and importers, reducing fraud risks and ensuring smoother customs clearance. As of January 2025, over 370 FTAs are in force worldwide, emphasizing the need for reliable origin certification.
Despite the critical role of origin certification, there are currently no mandatory regulations governing the certification of invoice declarations. Exporters can contact us and ask for our International Trade specialists to verify and certify their invoice declarations, providing all supporting documents to prove that they can benefit from the preferential origin.
We invite all exporters to register on the Genesis Gateway and submit their invoice origin declarations for verification and certification. The International Trade team will check if there is a valid FTA in place and check the commodity codes listed and whether the preferential rule of origin is applicable to those commodity codes. Once certified, the importer and importing Customs can verify the authenticity of the certification on the ICC Genesis Gateway verification platform.
